"Labrador Retriever"
Character
Labs are friendly, outgoing, and high-spirited companions who have more than enough affection to go around for a family looking for a medium-to-large dog. The sturdy, well-balanced Labrador Retriever can, depending on the sex, stand from 21.5 to 24.5 inches at the shoulder and weigh between 55 to 80 pounds. More yellow Labrador have been bred for calmness
Temperament
Labradors are easy-going, rewarding pets with high energy levels, meaning they love extra attention and exercise. They make excellent companions, as well as assistance dogs due to their sensitive and affectionate nature. Labradors do well with both sole owners or as a part of a family, and get on well with children and other pets. They are energetic, mostly placid, and cope well with the hustle and bustle of modern life.
Training & Exercise
Intelligent and eager to please, Labs relish the chance to learn and are quick to pick up commands. This affable breed responds best to positive reinforcement methods and will respond to your tone of voice. Since life is a game for these big, affable dogs, they respond well to upbeat training methods using your voice and positive reinforcement.
Care
Labradors are easy-going, rewarding pets with high energy levels, meaning they love extra attention and exercise. They make excellent companions, as well as assistance dogs due to their sensitive and affectionate nature. Your Labrador puppy should not sleep with you on your bed, although he can sleep next to you. He needs to adjust to a regular schedule, become independent, and recognize you as dominant. However, your Lab can sleep with you once he’s grown a little, is potty trained, and preferably 6 months old.
Coat
Labrador retrievers have coats of three basic colors: yellow, black, and chocolate. These colors are determined genetically, just like almost all of the traits that offspring get from their parents. The modes of inheritance of these coat colors are autosomal (not related to the sex of the dog). Labradors have two layers of fur or hair. The primary, top layer (known as a top coat) is more wiry and rough or abrasive to the touch. Under this second, softer undercoat, there is a layer of fine hairs that run very close to the skin.
